Welcome to a very special end-of-year edition of The Drop List! Over the course of 2023, we’ve given you the lowdown on the most highly anticipated releases and intriguing launches in the world of design—from furniture to candles, loungewear, and everything in between. Here, we’ve hit rewind to round up a few of the brands and launches that stood out the most to us this year.
Shantell Martin x Joya Studio
January 23, 2023 – The year started off strong with Shantell Martin’s candle collab with Joya Studios. Inspired by the theme of time passing, the British artist created and housed the two-layered scent in a glass vessel screen printed with original artwork in her signature style.
Great Jones
February 20, 2023 – These very funky (and not to mention microwave- and dishwasher-safe) measuring cups from Great Jones were a must-buy for the kitchen this year. They’re ideal for intended purposes when whipping up your fave recipes, in lieu of drinking cups, or even as unconventional vessels to hold stems or maybe even utensils.
Sophie Lou Jacobsen x Maison Balzac
February 22, 2023 – Clever-approved artist and designer Sophie Lou Jacobsen and Maison Balzac joined forces to unveil a very exciting candle, La Pluie (French for “the rain”) in February. The invigorating scent featured punchy notes of petitgrain, white musk, and black pepper, housed in one of SLJ’s iconic ripple cups.
Our Place
March 7, 2023 — In March, the brand behind the Insta-famous Always Pan released a cast-iron version of its Perfect Pot, designed to replace eight pieces of traditional cookware—including your stock pot, dutch oven, sauce pot, roasting rack, steamer, colander, braiser, and spoon rest. And if you need more persuading, you’ll remember we said its sibling, the cast-iron Always Pan, “works as well as it looks.”
Gelato Pique x Eames
March 24, 2023 — Japanese loungewear brand Gelato Pique released a third and final collaboration with Eames that's perfect for keeping you extra cozy for winter. There’s lots of printed tees, fuzzy hoodies, and even coordinating sets for design aficionados to peruse through, though we like the thought of cozying up at night with this rainbow-checkered throw blanket.
Barbie x Ruggable
April 12, 2023 — Barbie-mania hit us hard in 2023. In a sea of hot pink collectables, Ruggable joined in on the fun with the perfect decor to give your home a Dreamhouse makeover. Both subtle and design-forward, this ivory and pink geometric design from the collection caught our eye.
Caroline Z Hurley For Madewell
April 13, 2023 — Madewell partnered with textile designer, painter, and interiors guru Caroline Z Hurley in the spring to bring us a capsule of breezy, easy-to-wear wardrobe staples that we're still thinking about. Spanning swimwear, coordinating sets, and even a charming yoga mat, select pieces from the collaboration are still available—like this lovely shirtdress that will come in handy when spring rolls around.
Pernille Rosenkilde for Anthropologie
May 11, 2023 — When Anthropologie's new home and apparel collaboration with Scandi It girl and designer, Pernille Rosenkilde, landed in May, we immediately added everything to our spring wish list. This cottage-core embroidered pillow is one of our favorite designs, plus it's currently available at a discount.
Made In
May 19, 2023 — When contributor Steven John tested Made In’s griddles for us in May, he assured us that the cookware was up to snuff for frying eggs and bacon to making smash burgers, searing steaks and seafood, sautéing veggies, and much more. “No matter what you cook on these griddles, it cooks fast thanks to how well the hardware transfers heat, and it cooks well and releases easily.”
Herman Miller
May 24, 2023 — This past Seat Week, Audrey told us “I find a lot of leather office chairs are harsh or overly masculine, but the Asari’s look is unparalleled.” Designed by Tokyo-based designer Naoto Fukasawa (whose credentials include B&B Italia, Boffi, Issey Miyake and Samsung), the handsome chair is ergonomic, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing—available in high- and mid-back heights as well as eight different colors.
Gohar World x Super Yaya
May 31, 2023 — Released just in time for 2023 picnic season, this collab from Gohar World and Super Yaya is still a must-have in our books. Drawing inspiration from the brands’ respective Egyptian and Lebanese roots, the darling four-piece capsule includes a picnic basket, bottle carrier, and two types of flower carriers, each hand-woven at the Super Yaya studio in Beirut from 100% woven cotton and hand-dyed by artisans in the Ivory Coast.
Polène x Mobje
May 31, 2023 — Polène may make the perfect bag, but the French accessories line proved it can upgrade more than just your closet with its Mobje collaboration. These airy vases handcrafted from natural Japanese paper fiber and recycled leather are perfect for adding texture to your decor. Resembling a very stylish sun hat, inside each design is a sturdy glass vase with a stabilizing weight to house your favorite floral bouquets or branches.
Tan France x Caraway Home
June 6, 2023 — Next on our list of cookware crushes is undoubtedly the collaboration between Queer Eye’s style guru Tan France and direct-to-consumer brand Caraway. Lending Tan’s eye for color to the brand’s trusty pots and pans, this set dipped in a shade of deep moss green is our favorite from the trio—though you won’t go wrong with classic creme or blush pink either.
GUBI X Noah
June 15, 2023 — We love an international collab. Especially when the brands involved are as stylish as Copenhagen furniture brand GUBI and New York fashion label Noah. Fusing a shared ethos of effortlessly cool coastal living, the pair came together to release a special edition of the MR01 outdoor lounge chair, as well as a five-piece capsule collection that included an oversized beach towel, five-panel hat, swim shorts, tote bag, and sweater.
Craighill for Gantri
July 13, 2023 — Setting the right vibe for 2024 will be a cinch thanks to this fixture from Craighill and Gantri. The Flux Table Light came to fruition while Hunter Craighill was flipping through a book of classical Greek architecture by candlelight. Struck by the flickering flame, melting candle wax, and ancient structures, the lamp’s eye-catching form is designed to bring an element of peaceful elegance to your tabletops.
Homecourt
July 27, 2023 — Courteney Cox was here to help replace your drab kitchen cleaners and soaps with her elevated scents in 2023. Fusing sparkling mandarin, spiced ginger, fresh green basil, and ripe fig, the limited-edition kitchen trio includes a coconut-based surface cleaner and dish soap, as well as an argan-oil-infused hand wash that cleanses without stripping away moisture.
Tsu Lange Yor
August 23, 2023 — Troye Sivan’s Melbourne home will always hold a special place in our hearts (and our archives), so you can only imagine our excitement when the Australian singer launched his new fragrance project, Tsu Lange Yor (“to long years,” in Yiddish). In an interview with associate digital features editor Rachel Davies, Troye said that “interiors are obviously something that I’ve always loved in a really personal way for myself, but sharing it with you guys and seeing the reaction, I realized maybe other people like the same things that I like.”
Cold Picnic
September 19, 2023 — Cold Picnic released new bamboo silk rugs in September, bursting with childlike wonder. Handmade from either 100% Tex New Zealand wool or bamboo silk-cotton, the collection was inspired by oil crayon-on-paper abstract drawings by Freya, the daughter of founders Phoebe and Peter.
Tekla x Birkenstock
September 28, 2023 — Tekla celebrated many notable partnerships this year with longtime collaborators like Stüssy and Le Corbusier—but what we enjoyed most were the new sleep and footwear launches from the brand's Birkenstock collection. We immediately added these shearling-lined suede clogs to our cart as well as the cotton pajama sets that can take you from indoors to out.
Catbird x Sofia Coppola
October 5, 2023 — If you wish your life was directed by Sofia Coppola, this collab from Sofia Wines and Catbird is perfect for you. In celebration of the wine label’s 25th anniversary, the cult-followed auteur and jewelry brand released two delicate charms—a miniature can tab and wine bottle—both made with 100% recycled 14k gold and perfect to string on your favorite chain.
Houseplant
October 16, 2023 — Houseplant unveiled a new candle ahead of the holidays inspired by the Houseplant House (watch our tour here). Diffusing woody and spicy notes of bergamot, lemon, cardamom, and more, this candle was designed to bring a touch of California cool into your home. Not to mention, the vessel is collectible and reusable once you’ve burned through.
Analuisa Corrigan x Wooj
October 18, 2023 — From Clever-approved Analuisa Corrigan and Wooj, this mini light fixture gave us lots of joy in October. 3D-printed to resemble one of the ceramic light fixtures featured in Ana’s Los Angeles Stroll Garden Gallery installation, the petite design is versatile enough to fit in with just about any aesthetic and space.
Sandy Liang
October 30, 2023 — Sandy Liang’s new home launch brought coquette vibes from your closet to your living space this year. This graphic door mat is the perfect fixture to stop and fasten your ballet flats or fix any delicate hair bows before stepping out for the day, but if your budget is a little larger, we still recommend checking out this sweet ribbon runner rug.
Tuckernuck
November 1, 2023 — If 2024 is the year your become the ultimate dinner party host, we’re happy to report you can find pretty much everything you need from Tuckernuck’s home section—from Ginori 1735 china to Sabre cutlery. In November we were especially delighted by the brand’s new table linens, which are available in an array of sophisticated designs and can even be monogrammed for a bespoke touch.
